TruSEO Highlighter use to have one job: tell you where a problem is in your content.
Starting with AIOSEO 5.0.0, it now tells you how to fix it and can do it for you.
Click a highlighted issue, and AIOSEO shows you an AI-generated fix you can apply right where you're writing. No scrolling to remember what the problem was, no re-reading the paragraph to figure out what “passive voice” means for your sentence.
That covers moments like:
- A sentence flagged for passive voice, with a rewritten active version ready to drop in
- A misspelled word caught mid-draft, fixed without breaking your typing flow
- A paragraph that's run too long, shortened for you without you having to rewrite it
TruSEO 2.0 is included on every AIOSEO plan, from Basic to Elite. No upgrade needed.

How the TruSEO 2.0 Highlighter Works
The TruSEO Highlighter's basic idea hasn't changed since we introduced it in 2023: turn it on, and get feedback on your content's SEO, readability, and title.
We've just added to that list and made it easier to actually make the changes.
TruSEO's scoring engine was rebuilt from the ground up for this release, and the Highlighter benefits directly from that work. The same analysis that scores your content now has enough context on why something's flagged to generate an actual fix for it, not just a label.
Here's the short version: The Highlighter marks flagged spots directly in your content as you write.

What's new is that clicking one of those marked spots now surfaces a “Suggest a fix” option. Pick a suggestion, and it's applied right there, in place.

And if the underlines aren't for you, you can turn them off with one click, either for that post only or globally in your Content Optimization settings.

In summary: the Highlight toggle still shows you where the problems are. The new part is that it can fix them too, without sending you anywhere else.
Want flagged issues to be even more obvious? You can change them from being underlined to highlighted by going to All in One SEO >> General Settings >> Content Optimization >> Highlight Style. Underline is the default setting, but you can switch to Highlight.

Once you save this change, you're flagged issues will look like this:

What You Can Do With It Now
Here's a sample of what's changed in AIOSEO 5.0.0:
- Turn on Highlight and see spelling, readability, and basic SEO issues marked directly in your content as you type
- Click any highlighted issue to see an AI-generated fix for that exact spot
- Apply a suggested fix in one click, without leaving the post editor
- Fix passive voice, awkward phrasing, or overly long sentences without rewriting them yourself from scratch
- Catch and fix spelling errors the same way, right alongside your other readability fixes
- Work through a full list of flagged issues in one pass instead of tabbing back and forth between your draft and the analysis panel
- Clean up a post right before hitting publish, without a separate editing pass
My advice? Turn Highlight on in your next post and work through the flagged issues to see the rest.
Where This Shows Up: Spelling, Basics, & Readability
The Highlighter's fix suggestions aren't limited to one type of issue. They work across the Basics and Readability checks you're probably already used to, and now across Spelling too.
Misspelled words are underlined in red.

You can hover over the word and get AI recommendations for potential matches, as shown below.

All you have to do is click the one you want.
Pretty easy, right?

How to Fix a Highlighted Issue
The Highlighter itself doesn't need to be set up. If you've used it before, it's already there. These steps just cover the new workflow.
Step 1: Turn On Highlight
Open the Optimization tab on any post or page, and find the Highlight toggle at the top of the Content Optimization card. Switch it on, and flagged issues get marked directly in your content.

Step 2: Click a Highlighted Issue
Click on any marked spot in your content. You'll see an option to get an AI-generated fix for that specific issue. Click Suggest a fix.

Step 3: Apply the Fix
Choose a suggested fix, and it's applied immediately, in place. Keep writing without breaking your flow.

This whole loop takes seconds per issue, and there's nothing to configure ahead of time.
Note: Suggested fixes use your AI Credits, the same pool used by AIOSEO Copilot and AIOSEO's other AI tools. If you're fixing issues across a lot of posts, you can keep an eye on your usage in your account dashboard.
Common Issues & What the Suggested Fix Does
Here's a sample of what you'll run into and what the suggested fix actually does about it.
| Issue AIOSEO Flags | What the Suggested Fix Does |
|---|---|
| Passive voice | Rewrites the sentence in active voice, keeping your meaning intact |
| Sentence too long | Breaks it into shorter, clearer sentences |
| Paragraph too long | Suggests a tighter version or a natural place to split it |
| Misspelled word | Offers the correct spelling, applied in place |
| Missing transition words | Suggests a natural transition to improve flow |
| Consecutive sentences starting the same way | Rewrites one for variety |
| Subheading distribution | Flags where a new subheading would help, alongside the readability note |
Pro Tip: If you're editing a lot of posts back to back, work through one issue type at a time (spelling first, then readability, then basics). It's faster than jumping around, and it's easier to spot patterns in your own writing.
Available on Every AIOSEO Plan
AI-powered fix suggestions are available to all AIOSEO users, from Lite to Elite. If you already use the Highlighter, you already have this.
This is one part of a bigger rebuild in 5.0.0. We've introduced TruSEO 2.0, which now scores your content automatically instead of getting stuck at “N/A.” The Headline Analyzer got its own upgrade in the same release, as well as a new “Optimize with AI” feature that can make all the TruSEO suggested edits with the click of a button.
Reminder: Since fix suggestions run on AI, they draw from your plan's AI Credits, just like AIOSEO Copilot and AIOSEO's other AI tools. The more you lean on inline fixes across a lot of posts, the more you'll want to keep an eye on that balance, especially if you're managing several sites. You can always purchase more AI Credits, too.
We introduced the original Highlighter back in 2023 as a way to help you find problems faster. This release is the next step. Update to 5.0.0 and click your first highlighted issue. I think you'll see the difference immediately.
