How to Use a WordPress AI Assistant & Save Hours Writing

Are you tired of switching between ChatGPT and your WordPress editor, endlessly copying and pasting to create content?

I've done it too, and I know how inefficient it can be.

The good news: All in One SEO recently released a WordPress AI Assistant that brings AI content creation right to your editor.

I've been using it for the past several weeks and am excited to share all the tips and tricks I've learned for creating better content in a fraction of the time.

Let’s get started.

What Is WordPress AI Assistant & Why Is It Better?

A WordPress AI assistant is an AI-powered writing tool in your editor. It uses artificial intelligence to generate original content from text prompts that you enter into a chatbot-like block.

While standalone tools like ChatGPT are great for general writing, a native WordPress AI writing assistant is better for several reasons:

  • You Get a Seamless Workflow: This is the biggest advantage. No more switching tabs. Everything you need, from generating titles to writing image alt text, happens right inside the WordPress editor, saving you from the constant copy-and-paste headache.
  • It’s Built Specifically for SEO: The tools are designed for SEO tasks. Instead of generic text, you get SEO titles, meta descriptions, and other content that is structured to help you rank higher in search results.
  • It Saves You a Ton of Time: By automating the most repetitive and time-consuming parts of content creation, you can get a huge head start on your writing and publish more, faster.
  • It Helps You Overcome Writer's Block: Feeling stuck? You can instantly generate ideas, outlines, and full paragraphs to get your creative momentum going.

How to Use the WordPress AI Assistant in AIOSEO

The best way to understand the power of an integrated AI assistant is to see it in action.

I’m going to walk through a typical content creation workflow, from crafting your SEO title to optimizing your blog, all from inside the WordPress editor.

For this tutorial, I’ll be using the AI Assistant from All in One SEO (AIOSEO), which is the #1 SEO plugin for WordPress.

Step 1: Open the AIOSEO – AI Assistant Block

To get started, open a post or page in the WordPress editor. Then, click the plus (+) button to add a new block. A search bar will pop up.

Add block to WordPress.

In the search bar, type “AI Assistant” or “AIOSEO.” Once you see the AIOSEO – AI Assistant block, click on it.

This adds a new block to your post with an open field for you to type in your command.

Now, let’s see how to master the art of writing prompts.

Step 2: Enter a Thoughtful Prompt

In the age of AI content generators, it’s important to understand that AI output is only as strong as your prompt.

This means you need to be the director of the AI Writing Assistant, not just a passive user. A thoughtful, detailed prompt will produce much better results than a generic request.

Here are my top tips for writing a great prompt:

  • Be Specific and Clear: The more detail you give the AI, the better and more relevant the result will be.
  • Define Your Audience: Tell the AI Assistant who you're writing for. This helps it choose the right language and level of detail for your readers.
  • Set the Tone of Voice: Do you want your post to be casual, professional, friendly, or something else? Specifying the tone helps the AI match your brand's voice.
  • Include Your Target Keywords: If you're targeting a specific focus keyword, include it in your prompt. This tells the AI to focus on that terms as it writes.

Here's an example of a great prompt that uses all these tips:

Once you’re ready, type your prompt into the field and click Generate.

Step 3: Generate & Review the Text

After clicking Generate, the AI Writing Assistant will create content based on your request.

For my prompt, I got the following text in about 1–2 seconds.

Now, what I like to do is read through the text and see if I have any immediate changes for the prompt. For example, maybe I decide the tone isn’t quite right, and I’d like it to be more professional. Or I find the readability level too high and want to make it easier to read.

If there are any changes I want to make ASAP, I’ll edit my prompt and click the middle regenerate icon.

If I don’t like the result at all, I’ll click the trash icon to start over.

And once I’m happy with the text, I’ll click Insert, which puts all the text into editable blocks.

Step 4: Expand & Enhance Your Article

This step will take your draft from good to great.

Here, we’re going to focus on adding more value for your readers and going more in depth.

There are unlimited ways you can go about this, but I’ll give you a few of my favorites:

1. Add a Comparison Table

Writing a product lineup or comparing services?

Readers may not have time to read a full review of each item, so comparison tables are a great way to quickly communicate differences and similarities

Here’s an example of the prompt and table I created using AI:

2. Include FAQs

Frequently asked questions (FAQs) can be really powerful for users and search engines. They help you answer key questions while increasing the likelihood of ranking in Google’s People Also Ask section.

Add FAQs using a prompt in the WordPress AI Assistant.

In my example post, I had already asked the AI Assistant to include 3 FAQs in my original prompt. However, I decided the blog would benefit from 2 more, which is what I asked for in the above prompt.

I like how flexible the AI writing assistant is for adding content as you go.

3. Create Key Takeaways

I also add lists of key takeaways so users can quickly scan the article for the main points. This makes it easier for them to browse the content without having to read the whole page.

4. Expand Specific Sections

Did your first draft come up with a subtopic that you’d like to dive deeper into?

Just ask the AI!

Tell it to go more in-depth on “X” subject, and it will provide more text on that particular area.

This is a great way for increasing the topic coverage of your article and building authority.

Step 5: Fact-Check & Personalize

A golden rule of using AI writing assistants is to fact-check everything.

The AI is incredibly knowledgeable, but it's not a real expert and can sometimes make mistakes or present outdated information. Always take a moment to verify any statistics, dates, names, or specific claims it makes. This ensures your content is accurate and trustworthy.

Finally, the most important step is adding the one thing the AI assistant doesn't have: you.

This is how you turn a decent draft into a great article that builds a real connection with your audience.

Here’s how to add your essential human touch:

  • Be the Editor, Not Just the Writer: The AI will often generate multiple options for things like titles and meta descriptions. Your job is to choose the one that best matches your target audience's intent and your brand's voice. You're making the final strategic decision, not just accepting the first thing it creates.
  • Weave In Your Unique Expertise: Instead of just adding a personal story, look for opportunities to weave your specific knowledge into the AI-generated text. For example, you can add a short sentence with a “pro-tip,” challenge a point the AI made with a counter-argument, or add a specific data point that only an expert in your field would know.
  • Perfect the Flow and Transitions: When you generate content piece by piece, ensuring it all connects smoothly is vital. Your role is to act as the glue. Read through the full draft and add transition phrases, connect related ideas between paragraphs, and make sure the article flows logically from one point to the next.

My favorite final check is to read the entire post out loud. This is the best way to catch any awkward phrasing or sections that don't connect smoothly. If it sounds disjointed when you say it, it will feel that way to your readers.

Step 6: Write Your SEO Title & Meta Description

Alright, you’ve got your blog post or landing page (almost) ready to go.

Before you publish it live, you need to some final on-page SEO checks and that includes writing a click-worthy SEO title and meta description.

This is super easy to do with All in One SEO. Just click the AI button next to the Post Title and Meta Description fields.

From here, you can select the Tone and Audience from a list of dropdown options.

Once you’ve made your selections, click Generate SEO Titles

The WordPress AI Assistant will give you 5 titles for your article. You can click the plus (+) button next to the one you want to use, or click the Regenerate button to get more.

It’s a fast and easy way to get enticing titles that increase your click-through rate (CTR).

You can also get feedback from the TruSEO Analysis tool, which scans your entire page for your focus keyword and let’s you know when it’s missing. This is very helpful when you’re doing a final check of your content optimizations.

Bonus Step: Add AI-Generated Images

You’ve got the SEO content writing down, but what about the visual elements of your article?

If you’re anything like me, by the time you’re done writing and perfecting your article, you’re feeling a bit uninspired to look for images. I hate having to scroll through stock photo sites and finally find an image I like only to learn that it costs money to get.

So, All in One SEO took care of this issue by integrating an AI Image Generator directly into WordPress.

To use this tool, just act like you’re going to add or upload an image using the regular image block. But instead of going to upload or your media library, click Generate with AI.

Button to generate with AI.

This will open the Image Generator, where you can add a prompt for your image request.

You can also select the quality, style, and aspect ratio.

Once you’re ready, click Generate Image.

Here’s the result I got for my dog blog post:

Pretty impressive, right?

I’ve been loving the AI Image Generator and have been using it for everything from images in blog posts to banners and creative graphics.

It’s super easy to use and makes your content that much more engaging.
